Chapter 11 Question 1
What are the legal considerations of which a teacher must be aware when implementing technologies in the classroom? Explain each consideration and the step(s) you would take in your own classroom to ensure that you do not violate the law. With anything a teacher does, they always need to consider many different factors in relation to legality. When implementing different forms of technology teachers need to first use the technology their self and see how it works, not just read reviews. Teachers should apply a prototype session with the new technology tool to see how all the different features work and to make sure the tool is safe for use by the students. Internet safety is a huge concern for teachers. Yes, most schools have firewalls set up to block certain keywords or websites from being accessed by students while at school and using school computers. Unfortunelty, not all can be successfully blocked. Internet safety is important because the school can be held accountable for exposing the children to unethical and foul material. Before I would show any type of video to the students I would watch it in its entirety to make sure there were so issues with the material being presented. Another important topic is Copyright laws and acceptable usage policies. Teachers should always be aware of the school policies for what is acceptable and what is not. Using material that is not our own is copyright infringement and can lead to legal actions on the part of the owner. It is important to make sure the graphics, information, technology is free to share and use. Chapter 12 Question 2 Technology continues to evolve, becoming more personally responsive, more collaborative, and more individualized in addressing the needs of the learner. This approach of teaching and learning – whether using personal learning environments, MOOCs, or digital badges – will change how teachers use technology to ensure instruction that addresses the unique needs of the learner. How do you think the personalized learning will alter the way you implement technology-centered personalized learning in your classroom? Technology will always be evolving and advancing as the years pass by. With new advancements in technology comes new ways to integrate things into learning so that they are informative, engaging, and interesting to the students. It is important to make sure the technology is able to be accessed by the student and is legally ethical to use for instruction. Personalized learning will always be important to me as a teacher because as each school year arrives, I will try to learn all I can about my new students through learner analysis. This will allow for me to choose the right forms of technology to integrate into my classroom and instruction as well as choosing the correct tools for learning. Each learner learns differently so I think it is important to understand their competencies and skillsets so the technology chosen is not too easy and "boring" for them to use. I want it to be engaging and interesting to each of my students. I will always look for the latest forms of technology to use for learning in my classroom.

Hi Courtney, I enjoyed reading your posts this week. Finding the right technology for the right students is an awesome goal for a teacher. I do think it's important for a teacher's sanity to also balance what we do to meet students' needs with the number of hours we have in a day. It's important that technology aid teaching and learning and not become so daunting that it loses its usefulness. ~April

Courtney, I cannot tell you how often I thought about the materials you presented for your class over the last two weeks. On our travels we went through Europe and visited many Renaissance and middle age places. Your students will get a lot out of the materials you have prepared for them. Your statements about the legal requirements of the school and teachers to keep the students safe while using technology, really bring home the importance of teacher diligence. Also, I agree about the benefits of using technology for learner analysis. I have created some additional surveys I will have my students take the first week of school. Great job.
